Krista Weaver CD Design

Daniel Baxter February 28, 2022

I had the pleasure of designing and illustrating this CD packaging for a fantastic signer-songwriter, Krista Weaver. Here whimsical songs evoke a wonderful sense of place, hence, the integration of maps into the design.

This was my first endeavor into CD design, and I learned so much from the experience. Enormous thanks to Krista for including me in this project.

Please check out and order Krista's amazing new album here, or you can order the CD here.

Thanks for visiting!

A Tin Full of Tunes

Daniel Baxter May 9, 2019

Years ago, at a yard sale, I found a mysterious tin full of index cards (which I bought for $1.00). All that was typed on each card was a song title, and the name of a singer or band. The reason why these cards were made is unknown, but they sparked my imagination.  Here are a few drawings in which I utilized individual cards as canvases. More to come soon!

Édith Piaf

Daniel Baxter November 10, 2018

Heres a portrait of the Little Sparrow, Édith Piaf, drawn on a map of Paris. I was introduced to this legendary singer's music while sketching in my life-drawing class (at Parsons School of Design), and was utterly charmed. This immensely talented woman has earned an iconic status in France, and around the world . Materials: Pen, dry brush, and pencil

Prints of this piece are available here!

Music to Their Brains

Daniel Baxter April 17, 2018

Here’s a piece for the University of New Hampshire’s alumni magazine, Connect. It accompanies a story called Music to their Brains. The author describes a study in which people have their brains monitored while they play musical instruments. With this research, scientists are learning how different parts of our brains relate to music. Various lobes are utilized to process hearing, touch, thinking, seeing, etc. With this study, researchers hope to to understand more about how our brains work. They also see potential in using musical performance as therapy for people with brain trauma. A special thanks to Valerie Lester for this stimulating assignment.

Below are ideas I submitted for this project.

Jean Sibelius

Daniel Baxter January 22, 2018

Here’s a portrait of famed composer, Jean Sibelius, drawn on a map of Finland. His brilliant compositions helped Finland forge it’s own unique identity in it’s struggle for independence from Russia. The original drawing is available here!
